How did the winery get its fun name?
Our granddaughter may not find a place in the history books. However, she will be well known for giving our family winery its unique name. She decided that the pit of the stomach sensation she gets when traveling the ups and downs of Ball Diamond Road (Which is where we are located) warrants a name change to the town highway. She likes to call it “Tickle Hill”. On hearing her say that, we knew we had the name for our winery!

How many acres of grapes does Tickle Hill have?
We have approximately 42 acres and we continue to plant about two acres of new grapes each year.

How do we come up with the names of your wines?
Mainly the family comes up with the names, once we had a contest and a customer came up with the name!

Tickle Phil: Phil is our winemakers 90lb Basset Hound… he loves to be a part of everything!

White Delight: It just so happened that we were in the process for choosing a name for a new white blend when an incredible thunderstorm hit the area. The wine maker was inches away from being struck by lighting. This inspired us to name the wine “White Lightning”. When submitting this name to the BATF it was rejected due to the fact that “White Lightning” implies power. So we reworded it a bit and still got the White and the Light in there!

Sophisticat: This wine is a sweet Catawba blend. Since it is a Catawba wine we thought it would be fun to have the word cat in the name. The winemaker decided that since it is a sophisticated wine that Sophisticat would do the trick.

Susie Q: Named after Susan, the owners sister. We love to call her Susie Q!

Dandy Wine: This is a semi-dry wine made from dandelions… what better name is there than Dandy Wine!

Sweet Feat: No, not feet… it’s Feat as in what an accomplishment! This wine is made using a labor intensive process. The wine is actually fermented within each grape skin; it is not squeezed first. You can imagine how careful we had to be to keep the grape skins from breaking!

Rose: This wine is named for our grandmother…her first name is Rose. Oh how she loved her wine…we just had to name one after her.

Sweetie Pie: This is Tim’s (co-owner), favorite wine. He calls his granddaughter sweetie pie so it was nick named after her.

Apple Apeel: We held a contest and Dorothy, one of our popular customers, came up with Apple Apeel! Thanks Dorothy!
